Exhibition Statement

Over more than a year focusing on botanical creation, I have come to recognise a quiet truth: no living thing grows from nothing. Every plant rises by drawing upon accumulated soil nourishment, decaying organic matter, and the residual moisture and marks left by passing seasons. Only through inheriting what has gone before can it break through the earth, extend its branches, and take shape entirely its own.

Artistic creation follows the same principle. A Feast of Fading, Rebirth of Fleeting Life is my personal observation of growth and continuity, reflected through the language of plants.

I have structured this body of work across three mediums, mirroring the human journey from external absorption to individual self-formation.

Oil painting represents germination. Like the symmetrical cotyledons of a newly sprouted seed, this medium allows for precise, restrained documentation of botanical texture, light and form. My observational method is not original, but an inheritance from generations of artists. In following these established foundations, I engage sincerely with the unadorned essence of life.

Acrylic marker work embodies the stage of branching and development. With its rapid drying quality and defined linework, this medium permits me to move beyond pure representation. Through the twisting, folding and opening of botanical forms, I embed personal emotion and contemplation. Lines acquire definition; colour carries intention. This parallels human maturation: gradually departing from collective standards to develop individual character, while still rooted in inherited knowledge and aesthetic understanding.

Digital painting symbolises full blossoming and release. When botanical forms mature completely, imagination transcends physical limitations. Within the virtual canvas, I reconstruct light, reorganise structure, and allow vines to move beyond gravitational constraint, interweaving luminous colour throughout the foliage. The recurring skull motifs do not celebrate death. Instead, they use decay as a reflective contrast, emphasising the intensity, fragility and weight of living existence. All digital works are finalised as archival giclée prints, transforming virtual expression into tangible, physical art.

I often contemplate the destination of the skills, perceptions and aesthetic wisdom passed down through generations. I do not regard my practice as monumental or canonical. Rather, I believe every observation, every artistic trial, and every refined detail lingers subtly within the broader creative continuum. It may resonate faintly with a viewer’s perception, or quietly inspire another artist’s interpretation — like fallen foliage returning to the soil, becoming nourishment for future growth.

‘Falling into feast, blooming into life’ describes both the grand quiet ceremony of decay and the endless cycle of renewal. Nothing truly disappears. All that fades, departs and withers is recycled into nourishment, supporting every new emergence. In turn, all current growth and creation will leave subtle traces for those who follow.

This exhibition is my personal testimony within that ongoing cycle. I hope viewers standing before these works may perceive both the quiet origins of growth and the gentle persistence of renewal.
